#RacingStaffWeek Returns!
Racing Staff Week 29 June – 6 July
If you’re not familiar with Racing Staff Week, it’s time to get up to speed! Thanks to Racing Welfare, Racing Staff week is an initiative to champion all the staff that make our favourite sport possible. All 41 racecourses holding fixtures between 29th June and 6th July are taking part, with on-course activities and celebrations.
What’s happening and when?
In addition to events and awareness campaigns taking place at the racecourses, there are lots of other activities happening, supported by lots of industry organisations. For example, The Racehorse Owners Association is generously sponsoring 30 yard barbecues again this year. These barbecues help trainers to bring their owners and teams of staff together to mark Racing Staff Week and have some well-deserved downtime together.
Careers in Racing are giving away 15 Golden Tickets, to be hidden around racing centres and racecourses, and each of which contain a £100 high street voucher!
Racing Welfare is of course visiting as many yards and courses as possible during the week, and hosting a number of social events across the country and everyone is welcome! To find out what is happening in your area, keep an eye on racingstaffweek.com . The site is being updated daily with new events so do keep checking in.
Special racedays
Two events you must follow are taking place on 5th July with Betfair Friday, when Doncaster and Newton Abbot will play host to two very special racedays. Doncaster is set to run the 7f Clock Tower Cup for the 5th year in succession as part of their charity raceday, providing 12 stable staff riders with the opportunity compete on behalf of their respective yards. Newton Abbot will hold this year’s renewal of the Racing Staff Week Cup, contested over 1m 4f of glorious Devon turf and also boasting a full complement of riders, this time from the jump yards of the South West. All riders are raising money for Racing Welfare and have been nominated to ride by their respective trainers in recognition of their hard work.
If you can attend or follow the action online, give your fellow racing grooms all the support you can!
Get involved
If you or friends and family are headed to the races in this period, be sure to check out the Racing Staff Week film. This will be shown throughout the week on the big screens, and across the country. Take a moment to watch it and enjoy your moment in the spotlight.
Follow and share Racing Welfare’s social channels, and why not contribute your own images and moments using #RacingStaffWeek #RSW2019 and #WeAreRacing. Last year, the social media campaign achieved 3.4million hits! Let’s get the campaign even further in 2019!
