What qualities do you need to be a
The tasks of a racing groom are varied and while many skills can be learnt through training and experience, you’ll get better job satisfaction and be able to progress up the career path and pay scale more quickly if you show the following attributes:
- Good with horses
- Enjoy working in a team
- Like working outdoors in all weathers
- Hard working
- A good communicator
- A good level of fitness (we have provided information on fitness in our Hub)
We would also recommend that you get work experience at a racehorse trainer’s yard before you start your training. This will make sure that you understand what the role involves and you will find out if is it something that you will enjoy doing.
