Your financial support for
training and development

To train as a racing groom, there may be Government funding available depending on your age.

There could be funding from the racing industry too. Please speak to the British Racing School, the National Horseracing College and the Scottish Racing Academy, who can advise you on the funding that might be available.

Once you have a role in racing, you may be eligible for a training award or grant, including:

National Trainers Federation Charitable Trust (NTFCT) Toby Balding Award

The Toby Balding Award is now held every two years. Details for the new bi-annual Toby Balding Award in 2024 will be available shortly.

Toby Balding OBE was a great supporter of anyone looking to make their way in horseracing. The annual award named after him offers an exciting opportunity for ambitious employees in British racing yards to widen their knowledge and train to acquire new skills. We would encourage all trainers to embrace this award by supporting those loyal members of their staff to apply and help them advance to a more senior role.

More information and details on how to apply will be available on the NTF website: racehorsetrainers.org/industry/awards.asp
