Across the horseracing industry there are organisations and initiatives that offer careers and training guidance throughout your career – from a new starter to your retirement. They are free services and are there to help you reach your full potential and to enjoy a long and happy career in racing.


Racing Welfare

Racing Welfare has a wealth of information on career advice and training.

If you have a question or would like support with anything related to your career or training, call their support line on 0800 6300 443. This is the 24-hour Racing Support line.




The British Horseracing Authority, through its brand Careersinracing, supports the recruitment, development and training of those who work in horseracing as well as those who want to enter the industry. It provides information on training and careers for those racing grooms who want to move up the ranks in their yards or to progress into other roles in the horseracing industry. It also has a free industry Job Board where you can find vacancies in racehorse trainers yards.


Racing Staff Development Programme

The Racing Staff Development Programme offers work-based training for the racing industry at yards and training facilities nationwide.

Courses are often free or are subsidised and frequent webinars are offered as well to supplement career and skills development.




Racing2Learn is an e-learning platform designed to provide extensive online development opportunities for racing staff.

Some courses are designed specifically for certain job roles within racing and breeding with more generic courses also available.  Once registered, most courses are free to access. Some of the areas covered include:

  • Horse care
  • Racehorse welfare
  • Safeguarding
  • Health & Wellbeing
  • Diversity & inclusion



National Association of Racing Staff

The Union Learn project enables NARS to provide support and various courses to help racing staff improve or refresh their qualifications.



Racing Home

Racing Home seeks to improve the working lives of parents and carers in the horseracing industry. It seeks to ensure that all employees have an understanding of their basic rights and entitlements.
