International Women’s Day

To celebrate some of the inspiring women working in horseracing, Shelley Perham from the National Trainers Federation picks jockey, Bryony Frost as her woman of the moment…

Racing to School

Shelley works with the Racing To School programme. An educational charity which delivers free outdoor learning activities for young people at racecourses, studs and trainers’ yards. Bryony attended a school visit to Kempton with Shelley, where she took time out from a hectic schedule to chat to the group.

Taking the time

This visit was actually off the back of a near fatal fall suffered as a teenager. Bryony was hospitalised multiple times and underwent 12 operations. However, rather than talk about her journey, challenges and accolades, she was more interested to learn about the group. Understand their goals and ambitions, what they were aiming for. She spent time with them, discussing and sharing advice on how to learn mental strength and to dream big.’

She was a true inspiration to everyone on the school visit that day, children and grown ups alike. As a mother, it felt particularly poignant to see how this young formidable woman has fought back not only to full health, but is on the path to becoming the best lady jockey of all time.’

‘Bryony was an impressive role model that day but actually she is an inspiration everyday. One of my great pleasures is watching her ride. Her balance, feel and and natural ability is thrilling to watch. I look forward to watching her continue to chase the dream, and light a fire underneath the generations of young riders coming up behind her.’
