Racing Apprenticeship Taster Day with Haddon Training
Are you passionate about horse racing and dreaming of a career in the field?
Haddon Training are thrilled to announce their upcoming Racing Apprenticeship Taster Day, taking place at Station Yard Racing in Ettington, Stratford-Upon-Avon on April 2nd 2024, running from 10:00am to 16:30pm. Endorsed by The Pony Racing Authority, the event is aimed at individuals aged 14 to 16 who are currently participating in pony racing and looking to gain insight into yard-based Racing apprenticeships. The day will be led by specialist Racing Trainer Coaches, and filled with interactive and hands-on activities designed to develop the knowledge and skills required for a successful career in racing.
Activities will include:
- An introduction to apprenticeships.
- An interactive knowledge-based activity focusing on anatomy e.g., points of the horse, skeletal system, and digestive system.
- Preparing horses for the races, including plaiting, grooming, and bandaging.
- Interactive racing & riding activities covering riding on the gallops (using a simulator), knowledge of training programmes, getting horses fit, and utilising racing equipment.
- A question-and-answer session with Trainer Coaches.
Please note that this is an unmounted day, but participants are advised to come prepared with appropriate clothing, footwear, gloves, and a hat for activities around the horses.
Overseeing the day’s activities will be Michael Legg, the Racing Lead at Haddon Training. With a remarkable background as a former Amateur Jockey for Colin Tizzard and Harry Fry, as well as a former Assistant Trainer, Michael brings a wealth of experience and expertise to the table. Having witnessed first-hand the importance of well-trained and knowledgeable staff throughout his racing career, Michael is passionate about nurturing the next generation of racing professionals!
